All about the Rouget waterfall

The Rouget waterfall is located in the Giffre valley and springs all year round from the Sales torrent. It is located at an altitude of 960 meters above sea level a few minutes by car from Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval and about ten kilometers from Samoëns. The "Queen of the Alps" is 90 meters high and is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in France. Indeed, it is the second most visited classified natural site in the town of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, also called the “country of waterfalls”.
The Rouget waterfall is made up of 2 projections which can be impressive when the snow melts due to the rebound of the water on the stone slab. Water from this spring has been associated with virility and fertility to such an extent that elders still offer a bottle of it to newlyweds as part of their wedding blessings.

How to access the Rouget waterfall ?

From spring to autumn: by car or on foot

The Rouget waterfall is a very accessible waterfall from spring to autumn and, in order to discover the Rouget waterfall, you have to rush into the Giffre valley and take the road to the small village of Sixt-Fer-à - Horse and take the direction of Salvagny, pass in front of the car park and continue the road to the level of the waterfall which is at the edge of the road.
Second alternative: you can park in the car park and complete the path on foot by taking the road then a path in the undergrowth and again the road before hearing and seeing the “Queen of the Alps”

In winter: on foot, on snowshoes or on skis

In winter, the road after the car park being closed to vehicles, you will have no choice but to take a Nordic route to follow on skis, snowshoes or on foot until you reach the famous Rouget waterfall.

Refreshing in summer, freezing in winter, the waterfall remains, over the seasons, an essential place in the Giffre valley in the Grand Massif.
