At over 18 km long, Lake Bourget is one of the largest lakes in France. Featuring the town of Aix-les-Bains on its shoreline, and with Chambéry close at hand, the lake offers natural beauty in a magical setting.
Surrounded by beautiful mountains and bordered by the Bauges Regional Park, the region is a magnet for visitors, who are enchanted by the lake’s pristine waters and the magnificent scenery.
Much of the shoreline has been left wild and undeveloped, inhabited only by the local fauna and flora. Lake Bourget is nonetheless an ideal destination for holiday makers in summer, where everyone in the family can relax and enjoy water sports on the lake.
The region is a hub, with major Alpine roads crossing through. Lyon, Annecy, Geneva and Grenoble are all in close proximity, and major ski resorts such as Tignes and Val Thorens are only 2 hours’ drive away.
The strategic location makes for a vibrant atmosphere in the two major towns of Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains. On the eastern shore of the lake, Aix-les-Bains is a well-known spa town, popular for its port, beaches and events. Just south of the lake, Chambéry was the capital of the ancient Duchy of Savoy. You can wander through the old town’s lanes, discover the museums and linger on the terraces of Chambéry’s cafés. One thing is certain – the Lake Bourget region has something to please everyone.
