The Genevois includes all French cities located in the vicinity of the city of Geneva between the Ain and Haute Savoie. This historic territory has Annecy for capital and is located between Lake Annecy and the Swiss border, at the gateway to Lake Geneva. This privileged geographical location and the presence of winter sports resorts in the surrounding area make it a fine tourist destination all along the year. Although some communes are not very touristic, they are very popular among all those who wish to move in the region of Ain or Haute Savoie since they offer both the peace and authenticity of the Genevois while allowing the practice of several activities throughout the year. What's more, the real estate at the Swiss border is highly rated.
Among the towns of the Genevois, Saint-Julien en Genevois and its place de l'été or Annemasse and its Montessuit park have to be mentioned. You can also stroll in the park of the squirrels of Ville la Grand or make a detour by the vitam'parc of Neydens for a well-being stopover. Fans of medieval history will be spoiled for choice with the castle Gaillard, the castle of Divonne and the castle of Ferney Voltaire among others.
The Genevois is also an ideal place for hiking. Many walks on footpaths through various mountains and villages in the region await you with splendid panoramic views on the top. More unusual, donkey rides are also possible on the Salève. Other activities also await you, such as adventure trails, water activities on lake and river, paragliding, and visits to major tourist attractions such as the Maison du Salève and the Salève Cable Car. Around December, the Téléski du Salève will grant you the access to the ski slope of La Croisette to fans of winter sports.
Last but not least, the Genevois places great emphasis on gastronomy and there are many farmhouse and handmade products on sale in local shops. The Bouchet cheese dairy is undoubtedly the most famous in the region for its many medals and awards of excellence at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris. Many weekly markets are also present in the municipalities of Valleiry, Viry, or Collonges sous Saleve to name a few.
In Haute Savoie, you can also visit Megève, Lake Annecy, Aix les Bains, St. Gervais les Bains and Chamonix Mont Blanc.
