This border town of more than 11,000 inhabitants has developed strongly over the last 20 years.

Its connection with Switzerland is the seat of CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research), located at the exit of the city but on the Swiss territory.

This city is perhaps the most international of the Pays de Gex gathering more than 93 nationalities, but it nonetheless remains a connected city with the surrounding nature by its towns and hamlets near Pregnin, Sergy, Flies, Pouilly and Pregnin .

With a strong dynamism, be it through its areas of activity, its cultural exchanges and mix, national and international education, Saint-Genis-Pouilly remains one of the 10 major cities of the department of Ain.

On site, few places of interest and monuments to visit however. All the same, there is the church of Saint Pierre de Pouilly, the ruins of the castle of Flies and the Gallo-Roman burials which attract a few curious people in the cemetery surrounding the church.
